Korea Studies Research Center Organizes International Symposium in Paris to Promote Pansori and other Traditional Korean Art Forms

On June 20, the Yonsei Institute of Korean Studies and the HK Research Project organized an international symposium in Paris to promote the global expansion of Korean studies in the arts and humanities. The event was made possible through collaboration with the K-Vox/Korean Pansori Festival, the University of Paris 8, the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSHPN), and the Théâtre du Soleil ARTA.

The theme of the symposium was “Transmission and Partage,” which was meant to facilitate thoughtful discussion about the production, evolution, and worldwide circulation of traditional Korean art, particularly Pansori. A researcher from the Institute of Korean Studies said of the gathering: “This academic symposium is an opportunity to promote the globalization and modernization of Pansori and other Korean art forms. I hope this event takes us beyond the commercialization of the so-called Korean Wave or Hallyu, providing an occasion for human interaction, artistic communication, and a deeper understanding of Korean culture.”
