Yonsei Medical Center Discusses Future Collaboration with Jhpiego, the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics

On June 12, representatives from the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (Jhpiego) visited the Yonsei Medical Center to discuss future collaborative relations. Jhpiego is an international non-profit public health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. It was founded in 1973 with a focus on reproductive health and family planning worldwide. Today, Jhpiego carries out projects in 155 different countries, with primary program areas such as maternal, newborn, and child health, family planning and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, infection prevention and control, and malaria prevention and treatment.

Collaborating with Jhpiego will be of great benefit to the Yonsei Medical Center’s various international public health projects and medical missionary services.  It will also facilitate greater academic cooperation and future joint-research projects in the field of public health. According to Professor Jung Nam-sik, director of the Yonsei Medical Center: “In the past, South Korea was the receiver of healthcare assistance from other countries. Forty-one years ago, we received help in maternal and child health care from Jhpiego. Therefore, it will be very meaningful to collaborate with the organization in giving back by providing assistance to other countries.”
