—New Technology Promises to Lead to Innovations in Biosensors, Flexible Displays, Batteries, and LEDs

Yonsei Chemistry Professor Cheon Jin-woo and his research team have developed a new technology to generate transition metal chalcogenides in single-layer form. Their new exfoliation process, the tandem molecular intercalation (TMI) strategy, is an important advance over conventional exfoliation processes and promises to have a number of important applications in high-tech industries, particularly in the production of biosensors, flexible displays, batteries, and LEDs. The results of the research were published January 9 in Nature Communications under the title “Tandem intercalation strategy for single-layer nanosheets as an effective alternative to conventional exfoliation processes.” Professor Cheon and his team were sponsored by the Innovation Research Project, and they are currently in the process of obtaining a patent for their new technology.
