—New Platform Technique Should Provide More Effective Method of Stimulating Cell Growth and Healing

A research team, led by Yonsei College of Dentistry professors Kim Hee-jin, Yook Jong-in, Kim Nam-hee, has developed a new technology for delivering growth factor to the body. The “platform” technique promises to be an improvement over existing methods of growth factor delivery due to its greater efficacy, ease of use, and safety; it is expected to be used in the treatment of maxillofacial deformity and chronic kidney disease, as such treatments require growth factor in order to regenerate tissue.

The results of their research were published September 15 in the online version of Biomaterials under the title “A platform technique for growth factor delivery with novel mode of action.”  The project received funding from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Seoul Business Agency.  According to the Yonsei professors, the platform will be ready for practical use within five years, pending additional experiments and approval by the relevant regulatory agencies.
