On November 20, Yonsei joined The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU), becoming its eighteenth member. AEARU was established in 1996 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and its aim is to promote research and carry out mutual exchanges between major institutions of higher education in East Asia. Members of AEARU, which come from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, include Beijing University, Fudan University, Tsinghua University, Tokyo University, Osaka University, and the National Tsing Hua University. Yonsei is now the fourth Korean member of AEARU, along with Seoul National University, KAIST, and POSTECH.

Yonsei’s inclusion in AEARU is reflective of its continuing mission to foster international research collaboration and other academic exchanges. In 2013, Yonsei joined the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), a consortium of forty-five leading research universities in the Pacific Rim region. Furthermore, Yonsei is the organizer of the Three Campus Consortium for Comparative East Asian Studies, a program that allows selected students to study at Yonsei, Keio University, and the University of Hong Kong over the course of one year, while providing a number of dynamic internship opportunities. Along with the host schools, international institutions currently participating in the Three Campus Consortium include Princeton University, Cornell University, the University of Southern California, Georgetown University, King’s College London, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Geneva. The consortium also promotes faculty exchanges and joint research projects in studies related to East Asia.
