Strong Showing by Yonsei Law Students on National Bar Examination and National Judicial Examination

-97.11% of Yonsei Examinees Pass Bar Exam; 43 Yonsei Students Pass Extremely-Competitive Judicial Exam

For the first time ever, more Yonsei law students have passed the difficult and highly-competitive National Judicial Examination than their counterparts from Korea University.  With the results of this exam, as well as the National Bar Examination, which saw 101 of 104 (97.11%) Yonsei test-takers receive a passing mark, Yonsei has positioned itself as the second-best law school in the country, behind Seoul National University (SNU).  One of the chief reasons for the success on this year’s exams is the 2009 establishment of the Yonsei Law School, which has succeeded in attracting higher-caliber students to study law at Yonsei. Providing a supportive and innovative academic environment, the Yonsei Law School has experienced increasing success on the national exams each year of its existence, while its record for placing graduates in the job market has been stellar.  Yonsei law graduates have found work in large law firms, in the Prosecutor’s Office, and as law clerks, and they are employed in significant numbers in the Civil Service and Public Administration sectors.     One of the Law School’s greatest strengths has been its success in hiring the nation’s top professors in legal theory and practice, along with its emphasis upon training international legal professionals.  As such, the Yonsei Law School has academic exchanges with a number of prestigious law schools from around the world, including UC Berkeley, Washington University, and Georgetown, and it is the only Korean law school that takes part in the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS), a collaborative program, based in London, that offers courses in transnational and comparative law given by leading law professors from around the world.

Numerous Successes in Law School Competitions The Yonsei Law School also boasts numerous successes at major law school competitions.  For the past three years, Yonsei students have won top prize at the Mock-Trial Defense Competition, a prestigious event sponsored by the Supreme Court of Korea.  Students have also taken first place at the Mock-Trial Competition organized by the Korean Ministry of Diplomacy and Trade.  And, at the most recent mock-trial competition in Hong Kong, Yonsei law students made it to the final four, besting their counterparts from Harvard University in the process.   With its mission of training “global legal experts dedicated to the cause of democracy and justice,” the Yonsei Law School is determined to become not only the top law school in Korea, but also one of the best in Asia and the world.
