President Jeong Kap-young Attends Inauguration of Yale’s 23rd President

- Strengthens Cooperative Relationship with Yale University, Discusses Participation in Three-Campus Comparative East Asian Studies Program

October 12-14, Yonsei President Jeong Kap-young was at Yale University to attend the inauguration ceremony of its 23rd President, Peter Salovey.  During the visit, President Jeong continued his efforts to strengthen the relationship between Yonsei and Yale, discussing increased research collaboration and expanded exchange opportunities with officials there.  He was also given a tour of Berkeley College, one of Yale’s renowned residential colleges, which led to talks about Yonsei’s Residential College in Songdo, and how the universities might cooperate to enhance student life at the YIC.  At the same time, the inauguration ceremony provided a venue for President Jeong to develop ties with elite higher education institutions from around the world, as there were more than thirty university heads in attendance, including Andrew Hamilton, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford and Tan Chorh Chuan, President of the National University of Singapore.  Currently, the two universities are discussing the possibility of having Yale students participate in the Three-Campus Comparative East Asian Studies Program.  Administered by Yonsei, the Three-Campus Program is co-hosted by Yonsei, Keio University, and the University of Hong Kong, and it enables participating students from each school to study at all three universities over the course of one year—the fall semester is held at Keio, the spring semester at Yonsei, and the summer term at Hong Kong.  Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, students from Cornell University, Princeton University, and King’s College London will also be able to take part in the program, joining students from the host institutions to form a cohort for the year.  Talks are also underway with the University of Geneva concerning the future participation of Geneva students in the Three-Campus Program.
