August 18-20, Yonsei University’s Leadership Center, directed by Professor Jung Sung-hwa, took part in the inaugural Shanghai Leadership Summit.  Among the participants were students from Yonsei’s “Future CEO Forum,” a student association, as well as student representatives from the “Northeast Asian Network” (YNEAN), an organization dedicated to cultivating global and business leadership in Northeast Asia.  The two main themes of the summit were “Politics, Culture, and Leadership in Shanghai” and “Management and Economic Leadership.”  While in Shanghai, the students took several field trips, visiting offices of the Shanghai Provisional Government, Yoon Networks (a trading company led by Park Sang-yoon), and various cultural and heritage sites.  Each of the participating students was also given the opportunity to visit a local company, something for which they prepared prior to arriving at the summit.  Lectures on essential leadership and management skills in Northeast Asia were given, as were talks by alumni from Yonsei’s Department of Business Administration, including Director Park Jeong-kyu, Representative Suh Tae-jung, and Kim Nam-ho, a CPA. These Yonseians shared their personal experiences of working in global business and gave advice to the students regarding career development.
