On April 16, Yonsei University and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOA) that will lead to cooperation in creating and implementing effective aid programs in developing countries. The MOU covers issues related to training criteria, the dispatching of specialists and volunteer groups overseas, planning, implementing, and evaluating aid programs, and joint or commissioned research. Yonsei University recognizes that the need to train and educate students in the fields of international cooperation and development is particularly pressing, as Korea continues to expand its overseas aid programs. As such, Yonsei decided to establish an integrated field of study, “International Development and Cooperation,” at the International Campus in Songdo, and it also plans to develop a five-year bachelor-masters program focused on international cooperation and development in conjunction with the Graduate School of International Studies on the Sinchon Campus. In his speech, Yonsei President Jeong Kap-young said: “By cooperating with KOICA, Korea’s preeminent international cooperation and development organization, Yonsei will be able to more effectively help our global neighbors in need.”
