Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik Gives Special Lecture at Yonsei’s Law School On May 8th, Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik gave a special lecture celebrating Law Day at Yonsei University law school. He said that “People in the legal profession should have an objective conscience with awareness of social justice.” The lecture was about “The role of law and legal professionals.” The Prime Minister pointed out that, “Society will crumble if legal professionals who are supposed to uphold neutrality and justice become biased or corrupted.” He emphasized, “Law is ultimately for the people. This truth should not be forgotten.” He went on to say, “Our country achieved both democracy and economic development in a short period of time. However, we are also seeing the negative effects, such as the collapse of communities and the dominance of mammonism.” He expressed concern for modern Korean society – “These side effects are manifesting in the absence of honesty in our society and in the increase of indiscriminate litigations. They lead to the belittlement of law and order threatening the establishment of constitutionalism.” He stressed that, “For Korea to become an advanced country, it is important for constitutionalism to take root in our society. To make this possible the law and all rules should be impartial and consistent.” The Prime Minister plans on giving more lectures to university students to interact with the younger generations.
