Yonsei Campus Festival May 9th through 10th Yonsei University held its annual festival on May 9th and 10th. Daedongjae (the official name of Yonsei festival) and Akaraka (Yonsei cheering event) were some of the events held during the 2-day festival. Daedongjae consisted of concerts, Korean folk games and an event organized by YBS (Yonsei Broadcasting System). The opening ceremony for Daedongjae included performances by school clubs, such as Jazz Feel, HARIE, Blue Knights and NTIZ. Some 140 teams performed on stages in front of the 100th Memorial Hall, at the Y-junction of Baekyang-ro and in front of the Yonsei eagle statue. Korean folk games were held near the Main Gate on both days. Students were invited to enjoy traditional Korean folk games such as tuho (throwing sticks into a barrel), neolttwigi (Korean seesaw), ttakji-chigi (a game of slap-match) and others. On May 10th, YBS organized an event – “Feast in the Woods” – at Chungsongdae. The first part of the event showcased the YBS news programs and the second half was a mini-concert by singer John Park. The closing ceremony of Daedongjae was held in the evening at the Y-junction of Baekyang-ro. On May 11th, Akaraka was held in commemoration of Yonsei’s 127th anniversary. Yonsei’s music and dance clubs gave performances followed by a star-studded concert featuring Psy, Kim Jang-hoon, Lee Sang and TaeTiSeo of Girls’ Generation. In accordance with this year’s theme of “Lovers,” there was a proposal event and Kim Tae-woo took the stage to celebrate the new couples. The 2012 Akaraka ended with the Yonsei cheering routine.
