[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei Ranks No. 1 among Korean Private Universities in Per Capita Research Funding

Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s Report on Research Publications On September 29th, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korean Council for University Education released the results of 194 Korean four-year universities on 13 evaluation indexes such as full-time faculty research accomplishments. The entire research grant of full-time faculty in 2010 was 4.46 trillion won, an 11.2% increase from last year, and the per capita research grant of national and public universities (103 million won) and private universities (58 million won) increased by 6.8% and 8.1%, respectively. Yonsei University ranked top place among private universities in Korea in per capita research grant among, coming in second place after Seoul National University in the full ranking. As shown in the table, the rankings of per capita research funding among universities located in the metropolitan area or Seoul and Gyeonggi province also include Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea Aerospace University, Hanyang University, Konkuk University, Kyung Hee University (International Campus), Korea University and Ajou University. Among the universities in non-metropolitan areas, POSTECH came first, followed by Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST, Ulsan Institute of Science and Education, Chonbuk National University, Korea University of Science and Technology, Mokpo National University, Korea Maritime University, Pusan National University and Kyungpook University. The number of research articles published in national journals (registered or in pending registration by the National Research Foundation of Korea) per capita in national and public universities increased by 3.4% compared to last year, and that in private universities showed no difference from last year. Also, the number of articles published in international journals per capita in national and public universities increased 8.3%, while that in private universities increased by 9.1%. In the rankings of international journal publication among universities in the metropolitan area, Yonsei came in third place, following Sungkyunkwan University and Seoul National University.
