Overseas Koreans and foreign students studying at the Korean Language Institute (KLI) immersed themselves in volunteer activities this summer. Since 1986 KLI has been offering Summer Special Programs that teach Korean language and provide activities to experience the Korean culture for overseas Koreans enrolled in KLI. This year, the five-week Summer Special Program began classes last June 27. In addition to language learning and cultural experience, this year’s program offered chances for overseas Koreans to better understand the Korean society through volunteer activities for the intellectually challenged people. 54 KLI students and 18 intellectually disabled people attended the activity. The students were given an orientation to better understand the intellectually disabled on July 5. On July 8, the students met the intellectually disabled and enjoyed the moment together, teaching them songs in English and dances. On July 15, the students visited the Seoul Museum of History at which they had an enjoyable time with treasure hunts and fun quizzes. On July 22, another round of learning songs in English took place.
