[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] The 2011 Yongjae Awards to Professor Cho Dong-geol and Lim Hyong-taek

The Yongjae Awards, founded in honor of the attainments of Yonsei University’s first president Yongjae Paek Nak-jun, was this year given to Emeritus Professor at Kukmin University Cho Dong-geol and Emeritus Professor at Sungkyunkwan University Lim Hyong-taek. As a researcher of Korean Modern History, Professor Cho has especially devoted his studies in the Korean Independence Movement; and as a researcher of Chinese Classics, Professor Lim has produced significant achievements in the field of Korean studies centered on Chinese Classics. Professor Cho is a veteran researcher in the field of Korean Historical Studies. As a first generation scholar of the Korean Independence Movement, he is acknowledged to have formulated historical theories of the Movement. He has systemized diverse aspects of the historical event, having published around 20 books and 120 academic journals. In particular, his ‘Modern Korean Historical Studies’ in 1998 is considered a monumental work in the field. Professor Lim is not only a representative scholar in the field of Korean Literature, but has also produced noteworthy accomplishments in Korean Academic History. By discovering, translating, and interpreting primary material, he has provided credible research perspectives on a wide range of topics in several related areas: Korean Chinese Classics, Classical Literature, Realist School of Confucianism, Korean Studies, and East Asian Studies.
