Yonsei Hawking’ Shin Hyung-jin visited Professor Kang Seong-ung on February 22nd at the Respiration Rehabilitation Center in Kangnam Severance Hospital. Hyung-jin and his mother make regular visits to Professor Kang for Hyung-jin’s rehabilitation treatment. This visit in February was more cheerful and pleasing. Professor King congratulated Hyung-jin and his mother on his graduation and her honorary diploma. Hyung-jin’s mother, Mrs. Lee said, “If it were not for Professor Kang, Hyung-jin could not have graduated or even have attended classes.” Their relationship goes back to 2006 when Hyung-jin lay in bed—unable to go home or school. During his visit to America in 2004, Hyung-jin suddenly returned to Korea on a US troop transport plane due to his respiratory distress associated with acute pneumonia. The artificial respirator saved his life, but he lay in bed for a year and a half. It was in his second year when Hyung-jin met with Professor Kang Seong-ung, the most well-renowned specialist in respiration rehabilitation treatment in Korea. Ten days after Professor Kang started Hyung-jin’s treatment, Hyung-jin was able to remove the artificial respirator. Hyung-jin’s mother remembers this moment as a miracle.
