Yonsei University has been ranked first place in the overall assessment of university libraries in Korea. In particular, Yonsei scored the highest points in the two fields: ‘specialization in education & research support service’ and ‘contents enlargement and reinforcement of information knowledge.’ The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Korea Education and Research Information Service announced the list of 10 excellent libraries on December 2nd. In this year’s evaluation, 58 university libraries were assessed in terms of three categories: ‘specialization in education & research support service,’ ‘contents enlargement and reinforcement of information knowledge,’ and ‘connection with local community and expansion of external cooperation.’ The examination was carried out on three scales as well—large, medium, and small. Those ten university libraries selected will receive a grant of 5.2 hundred million won—large (60,000,000 won), medium (50,000,000 won), and small (40,000,000 won). As the winner in the overall evaluation, Yonsei University will be granted the first prize of 70,000,000 won. The other 9 excellent libraries include Yongnam University (large), Soongsil University (medium), and Pohang University of Science and Technology (small) in the field of specialization in education & research support service; Ewha Women’s University (large), Gyeongsang University (medium), and Korea National University of Education (small) for contents enlargement and reinforcement of information knowledge; and Kyunghee University (large), Hallym University (medium), and Hansung University (small) for connection with local community and expansion of external cooperation
