19th in the 2010 Chosun Ilbo-QS Asian University Rankings Yonsei University is being ranked 19th in the 2010 Chosun Ilbo-QS Asian University Rankings, released on May 13. Having rocketed up the rankings from last year’s 25th to 19th this year, Yonsei shows the highest increase rate among the universities in Korea. Yonsei is now aligned with the top 20 Asian universities such as the University of Tokyo (Japan) and Tsinghua University (China). A total of 448 institutions of higher education in 11 Asian countries, including 80 universities in Korea such as Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Korea University and Sungkyunkwan University, participated in the recent evaluation. Scores were measured for the four categories: research capacity (60%), education level (20%), reputation of alumni (10%) and internationalization (10%). According to the results, the University of Hong Kong was ranked number one with University of Tokyo 5th, Peking University (China) 12th and Tsinghua University 16th. Yonsei’s leap in world rankings seems to have been predicted from its notable rankings by other lists such as the 2007 SCI journal rankings (Yonsei ranked 96th), the 2008 Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (Yonsei ranked 200th) and the 2009 The Times World University Rankings (Yonsei ranked 151st).
