On December 24, 2009, University President Kim Han-joong signed MOU on establishing UNDESA’s Asia-Pacific Center with Lee Maan-ee, Minister of Environment, and Ahn Sang-su, the Mayor of Incheon. Assessing Korea’s policies on sustainable development to be positive, UNDESA first proposed to set up the center in Korea in 2007. Since then, Korean government was looking for a local government and an educational institution that have the capability of co-running the center. Yonsei and Incheon city were selected. The center will develop green growth policies in different sectors as well as cooperation programs for countries in Asia-Pacific region to carry out the policies. It will also educated groups of specialists who will take charge of the programs and policies. Moreover, the center will develop and manage education and training programs for different groups. The Ministry of Environment and Incheon city provide administrative and financial support, while Yonsei is responsible for planning and management of research and education programs, and education of specialists.
