The 2008 Yonsei International Summer School (ISS) came to a close after leading its 784 international and 140 Yonsei students through a six-week-long program. The Yonsei ISS, held every summer for students from overseas universities, started out in 1985 as the first program of its kind in Korea and has grown to become a well-esteemed academic program. This year’s programs was especially successful because students from not just English-speaking regions but all over the world, including Mexico, Japan, China, and Singapore, came to Yonsei to participate in the ISS. Through field trips to historic cities, tours, performances, and festivals, the students were able to experience Korean culture in addition to a high-quality education provided by outstanding scholars from universities all over the world. The students were also encouraged to immerse themselves in the Yonsei community and take a step further than merely taking classes when they were invited to a fiesta at the Yonsei Presidential Residence, allowing them to join the Yonsei network. Beginning last year, Yonsei students were given the opportunity to take classes at the ISS. Students were highly satisfied with the opportunity for a global experience without having to go overseas, and 140 students participated this year. The international students who left campus after their award ceremony on August 7 are expected to become delegates of the Yonsei ISS in their respective communities. *Special Activities June 24-26 Three-day field trip (Gyeongju, Andong, Ulsan) June 28 Seoul City Tour- Palace Tour & Namsan Seoul N Tower July 4 Everland / Caribbean Bay July 11 Performance B-Boy July 17 Summer Fiesta with the President July 18 Boryeong Mud Festival
