[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei Economics Teams Wins SIFE Competition

Named Representative of Korea For SIFE World Cup On July 4, at the JoongAng University Art Center, Yonsei University’s SIFE team won the national cup and became the team to represent Kore at the SIFE World Cup, which will be held in Singapore in October with 48 countries participating. Full airfare and accommodations are included in the invitation. SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) is a nonprofit organization sponsored by the HSBC Bank which sponsors projects for economic development planned and conducted by students. The organization encourages entrepreneurial thinking and knowledge of the world of economics and finance. SIFE selects national champions each year by evaluating the SIFE projects of each member universities. This year, 19 universities participated, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Ewha Womans University. 300 Students from 19 Universities SIFE was established in 1975 and has its headquarters in the U.S. There are currently 48 member countries and 2,000 universities. Paul Skelton, Managing Director and Head of Global Banking and Markets for HSBC Korea, professed high hopes for the organization’s results in Korea. “HSBC sponsors SIFE to achieve the goal of economics education. I am very impressed by the Korean students actively participating in educating their community through the SIFE program. We expect the SIFE participants to become global leaders in the economic world of Korea.”
