Sons and Daughter Donate 500 Thousand Dollars in Memory of Father Yonsei University announced on July 21 that a scholarship donated by the daughter and four sons of Yonsei alumnus Lee Dong-Soo will be given to outstanding students of the College of Liberal Arts who are in financial need. The family of the late Mr. Lee put together 100,000 dollars each to create this scholarship fund, which will be named the “Dong-Hwa” Scholarship. The scholarship is the largest scholarship for students in the College of Liberal Arts, and the name comes from the the names of Mr. Lee Dong-Soo and his late wife Mrs. Park Hwa-Seo. The scholarship donation was made on July 23, the first anniversary of Mr. Lee’s passing. The late Mr. Lee graduated from the Yonsei College of Liberal Arts in 1948 and served as a journalist for the Chosun Ilbo, Deputy Editor in Chief for the Dong-A Ilbo, Director of the Dong-A Broadcasting System, and Vice President of the Korea Archery Association. Mr. Lee was always known for actively participating in efforts to help others, serving as Chairman for the Geumgang Scholarship Association and the Dong-A Koomnamoo Foundation. Five Brothers and Sisters Come Together in Memory of Parents After their father’s passing, Mr. Lee’s daughter and four sons came together to donate this scholarship: Mr. Lee Sang-Wan (58, President of the Samsung Electronics LCD Division), Mr. Lee Sang-Woon (56, Director and Vice-Chairman of the Hyosung Group), Ms. Lee Sang-Sook (54), Mr. Lee Sang-Cheol (52), and Mr. Lee Sang-Beom (50). President Lee Sang-Wan graduated from Seoul High School, the Hanyang University Department of Electrical Engineering, and the Yonsei University Graduate School of Business. He is considered the “Techno CEO” in Samsung Electronics, successfully managing the division despite the difficulties in the LCD world and leading the Samsung LCD division to rank number one in the world. Vice-Chairman Lee Sang-Woon was promoted to president of the Hyosung Group in 2002, and managed the company as Director and COO. For his work in bringing about the globalization of the group, Mr. Lee was promoted to Vice-Chairman.
