[YONSEI NEWS] Working to Establish Yonsei as Internationally Acclaimed Institution

Chairman Park Sam-Goo of Kumho Asiana Elected to Three-Year Term as Yonsei Alumni Presdient Chairman and CEO Park Sam-Goo of Kumho Asiana was elected as the 26th President of the Yonsei Alumni Association. The decision was made unanimously during the meeting held in the Alumni Hall on June 24. Present for the decision were Yonsei President Kim Han-Joong, former Alumni President and Chairman of Asia Cement Lee Byeong-Moo, President Kim Byeong-Soo of the Pochon CHA University College of Medicine, and many other senior members of the Yonsei Alumni Association. In his speech, the newly elected Alumni President expressed his gratitude to the alumni members who had appointed him to the prestigious position and showed determination to use this as an opportunity to give back to the university which had taught him the value of truth and freedom. President Park also revealed his plans for the future: “I will work together with the university and the board of trustees to make Yonsei a top private university not only in Korea but also in the world. With the cooperation and support of the alumni associations of the individual colleges and graduate schools, I will make the entire Yonsei alumni community stronger and more alive, and also carry on the projects passed on to me by my predecessors. In this global age, Yonsei must compete with Harvard and Yale. I will put my best effort into the successful completion of the Songdo Campus which will put Yonsei on the international map.” President Park also mentioned government policies on education, emphasizing that universities must be given more freedom to choose the students more appropriate to their unique programs, and closed his speech by promising to make the Alumni Association a more open, active, and supportive community. President Park’s brother, the late Mr. Park Jeong-Goo had also served as Alumni President from 2000-2002.
