[ABOUT YONSEI] Famous Yonseians

Throughout its history, Yonsei has produced gifted men and women in every sphere of human endeavour who have studied at the University. Among these are 2 Prime Ministers, 4 Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 1 Minister of Finance and Economy, 1 Speaker of the National Assembly, 1 Chief Justice of Supreme Court of the Korea Republic. Currently, 9 Yonseians are Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Korea Republic. In particular Dr. Shin Jaiwon was named Associate Administrator for Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate of the NASA, this position is the third highest ranking position in NASA, and has made great strides in the corresponding research fields. In addition, 73 (14.3%) persons among the 512 CEOs of the Top 500 Korean Companies are Yonseians, currently ranking 2nd after Seoul National University. Renowned CEOs include Bon Moo Koo of LG Corp., Kyung-Bae Suh of AmorePacific Corp., Bae, Ho-Won of Samsung Securities, and Lee Jong-Soo of Hyundai Engineering & Construction. Yonsei graduates include swimming champion Choi Yoon-hee, 1982 Asian Games gold medalist in the 100m & 200m backstroke, internationally renowned golfer Shin Ji-yai, Director Bong Joon-ho who exhibited ‘A Higher Animal’ at the Filmfest München, and Baritone Kim Dong-gyu, the main singer of the Teatro alla Scala di Milano.
