[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei - Hynix Semiconductor Industrial-Academic Cooperation Agreement

The “Yonsei-Hynix Semiconductor Cooperation Center” Established to Cultivate a Talented Workforce in the Field of Semiconductor Technology Yonsei University and Hynix Semiconductor (President Woo Ei-Jae) entered into a contract for the foundation of the Yonsei-Hynix Semiconductor Cooperation Center. The Cooperation Center is to cultivate a talented workforce and engage in joint researches on semiconductor technology. The agreement ceremony was held on November 22nd at 11:30 am at the Seminar Room in the main building. Present at the ceremony were: President Jung Chang-Young, President of Administration Youn Dae-Hee, President of the Wonju Campus Jung Gab-Young, President of the College of Engineering Kim Moon-Kyum, President of Hynix Semiconductor Woo Ei-Jae, Vice President Oh Choon-Sik, Head of the Research Center Park Sung-Wook, and Chief Advisory Officer Kim Si-Woo. Yonsei and Hynix Semiconductor have been providing industry-practical courses on semiconductor cell processes for the last four years in order to cultivate talented people who have executive ability. This cooperation center extends the current program to Master’s and Ph.D. courses. Both institutions plan to run joint technological development projects, and in addition, train people with potential in the areas of electronics, materials, and physics to become the core human resource assets in the development of semiconductor technology. 9 Billion Won Support Plan Over 5 Years In addition, students on scholarship through the cooperation center will be participating in the Hynix internship program to receive field experience for at least one month. Over the next 5 years, Hynix is planning to support Yonsei through various industrial-academic scholarships, education funding, and semiconductor equipment donations amounting to approximately 10 billion won. President Jung Chang-Young stated, “In order for our country to advance, it is important to strengthen our research and industry, and this type of industrial-academic collaboration is critical” and “I expect this cooperation to become a model case.” Hynix Semiconductor, in collaboration with Yonsei University Wonju Campus, will open a 4-year campus within their headquarters in Icheon. The campus will offer three courses including computer information engineering (semiconductor), international relations (Chinese), and business administration, and these will be established as regular degrees.
