Nobel Laureate, Dr. Kurt Wüthrich and Former Secretary General of the OECD, Professor Donald J. Johnston On October 18, Underwood International College (Dean Jongryn Mo) invited Dr. Kurt Wüthrich (2002 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry) and Professor Donald J. Johnston (former Secretary General of the OECD), to the Second UIC Nobel Forum held in the New Millennium Hall Auditorium. Professor Euysung Kim, UIC Program Chair of International Studies, conducted this panel discussion, titled “Sustainable Development and the Environment.” UIC student panelists were Jeesun Park, Seung Yeon Oh, and Yeo Jung Chang. This forum was an exceptional opportunity to hear opinions from two global leaders of the field of economics and chemistry on today’s most pending issue, sustainable development and the environment. Diverse perspectives and viewpoints became the stepping-stone for young UIC students to understand their surroundings and creatively observe them. Allowing students to interact with internationally distinguished academics also reminded the students what it means to be a global leader and the responsibility that comes with it. UIC held its first Nobel Forum on September 11. The speaker was Professor Edward C. Prescott, a 2004 Nobel Laureate in Economics and a Professor at Arizona State University's Department of Economics. On October 19, 7:30am, Professor Wüthrich also had the chance to meet the Yonsei Education Affairs Committee members during the Third Yonsei Knowledge Forum at Allen Hall. He gave a lecture on "The Experiences of Forming Research Teams in Switzerland and the US" followed by a discussion session.
