Danish Prime Minister Receives Honorary Degree

Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in political science from Yonsei. He received the honor due to his commitment to economic and political development in Denmark, as well as his advocacy for expanding cooperation between Yonsei and Europe.

Having a law degree from the University of Copenhagen, Prime Minister Rasmussen was deeply involved with a number of political, economic, and social issues while working in the Ministry of Interior and Health and, later, as the Minister of Finance. Alongside his political career, he served as council chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

Thanks to Prime Minister Rasmussen’s leadership in the GGGI, Denmark played host to the fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2009. He was also integral to the launch of the Global Green Growth Forum with South Korea and Mexico in 2011. And as Chairman of LøkkeFonden, he has supported projects for reducing poverty and improving the living conditions of the poor in Denmark.

Throughout his public service career, Prime Minister Rasmussen has been a strong advocate for spurring economic growth in developing countries. In 2015, he delivered the opening remarks at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, and he was a speaker at this year’s Women Deliver Conference in Copenhagen.
