Alumnus Pianist Jin-hyoung Park Wins

Top Prize in Prague Music Competition

 

 

 

Pianist Jin-hyoung Park, took first place at the Spring in Prague International Music Competition. The event was first held in 1947, and all of the competitors are young musicians under the age of thirty. Two top prizes are awarded for best performance; this year the jury chose a trumpeter and Park for piano. Park became the first Korean to take top honors at the competition. 

 

In receiving the award, Park thanked all the people who supported and cheered for him, saying: “The great result is due to the people who supported me. I tried to put my feelings into the music with honesty, and I think this resulted in reaching the audience with persuasion.”

 

College of Music Dean Geum-bong Kim said of Park and his peers: “Several students from the College of Music have won in music competitions recently. They are setting good examples and serving as positive role models for other students. I look forward to more good news coming this way.”

 

On June 16, Park played at the Shining Yonsei Musicians Concert in the Kumho Art Hall-Yonsei. He performed with violinist Ji-in Kim, who is a current student in the College of Music.
