A group of Yonsei researchers, led by Biotechnology Professor Ho-jung Kwon, published a review article in May on the latest advances in target protein identification methods for label-free natural products. The piece appeared in the journal Natural Product Reports, a publication of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and it is entitled “Advances in identification and validation of protein targets of natural products without chemical modification.”

 

In their review, Professor Kwon and his coauthors examine a number of new strategies that have been recently developed and applied to identify the target proteins of natural products and synthetic small molecules without chemical modification of the natural product. Ultimately, they argue that the “integration of newly developed technologies will provide new insights and highlight the value of natural products for use as biological probes and new drug candidates.”
