SSK Research Center Signs MOU with Keio University

Establishing Global Research Center Network

Yonsei’s Social Sciences Korea (SSK) Research Center recently signed an MOU with the MediaCom Research Center at Japan’s Keio University. The agreement stems from the SSK Research Center’s goal of “becoming a hub for global research center networks,” and it will enable both centers to share research themes, theories, and methodologies. The MOU also allows for researcher exchanges and jointly-authored research articles.

The SSK Research Center was established in 2013, with the merging of two separate research teams, which were led by Sociology Professor and current Yonsei President Yong-Hak Kim and Professor Hwa-soon Cho from the Department of Political Science & International Studies. The center receives support from the National Research Foundation of Korea. Its aim is to conduct important research related to today’s “network” society; in particular, they examine issues in online and new media spaces, such as social inequality and political biases.

Presently, the SSK Research Center is composed of more than twenty professors, researchers, and assistants from five Korean universities (Yonsei, SNU, KAIST, Sogang, and Daegu) and two international universities (Cornell and Wisconsin-Madison). The members hail from different departments in the social sciences and natural sciences, and they collaborate on interdisciplinary projects relevant in a global context.
