University Publication Center

Yonsei University Publication Center aims to enhance academia and human culture through the publication of research books and high quality cultural books which are the results of the faculty’s efforts. In 1929 Choi Hyunbae’s Urimalbon was published and on October 13th 1955, it has been acquired publication approval by the Ministry of Education and has published around 1,200 books.

History and Current Status

History

Footprints of University Press Cultural Center started from the publication department of Yonhi College in 1929. Choi, Hyun Bae published the first sheet of Urimalbon in 1929, and on the next year Yonyi College Humanities Research Collection (1 Collection) Chosun Umoon Yungoo was published. After the end of Japanese colonial and the Korean War, the academic and educational activities in this period were in a pause state. Then in June 15 1953, the re-publication of "Yonhi Chun-Chu" in Busan during the evacuation also succeeded to the issuing of the newspaper. Also at the same year in November acting Chun-Chusa publication was re-established and "Hamlet” that professor Choi Jaeseo had translated was published. After war wounds were healed throughout the nation, attention towards academic culture expanded and, in response to this, the role of the publication was further strengthened. The demand for a separate department for publication especially Korean Studies related rare books or research Papers, academic books. Hence in October 13 1955 University Publishing Center was established with the authorization of the Ministry of Education.

Physical Education Committee

In order to fulfill the vision of wisdom, virtue and physique of Yonsei University as a private university, the university has established the Physical Education Committee that is in charge of the physique in August 17 1962, as well as Office of Academic Affairs for wisdom, Office of Student’s Affairs for virtue. The Committee has supported five parts of athletic groups in the university and has formed independent budgets for its work and has changed its name as an affiliated higher education group “Physical Education Committee” in November 2004.
