Underwood International College (UIC)

About

Underwood International College is Korea’s first English-language liberal arts college and global renowned as Yonsei University’ flagship international program. Its student body of 2,500 students from 66 countries is educated by 112 distinguished faculty of international and Korean scholars. The mission of UIC is to bring together a diverse group of students from all over the globe, providing them with an interdisciplinary education that emphasizes Creative & Critical Thinking, Global Leadership, and Democratic Citizenship.

Majors Offered

UIC spans over 16 majors under five divisions in three fields as follows.

  1. 1) Underwood Field
    • Underwood Division: Comparative Literature and Culture, Economics, International Studies, Political Science and International Relations, Life Science and Biotechnology
  2. 2) Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Field

Scholarships

Scholarships offered at Underwood International College are divided into three categories: Admissions, Merit-based, and Need-based. Other various scholarships not offered on a regular basis are announced to all eligible UIC students. For more information, you can go to the UIC website. 

Global Leaders College (GLC)

About

Originally founded in 2015, Global Leaders College is Yonsei University’s youngest college, providing the world's first Korean language-based premium curriculum for international and overseas Korean students. Currently 660 students from 30 countries are pursuing their studies at GLC. GLC offers support systems for students to fully familiarize themselves with Korean culture and to be able to adapt quickly to new policies and the new educational environment of South Korea.

Majors Offered

GLC currently offers three majors: International Commerce, Korean Language and Culture Education, and Culture and Media.

Scholarships

Global Leaders College offers various scholarships and financial aid divided into three main categories: Need-based, Merit-based (Honors Scholarship, KOSAF-GLC Fellowship), and Work-based (Activity-based Scholarship for mentoring/internships/field trips, Work-Study Scholarship for office assistants, Leadership Scholarship for Student Council members, Assistant Scholarship for TAs). Undergraduate Degree Program

About

The regular undergraduate degree program at Yonsei University provides an exceptional educational environment to educate the future leaders of society. The Korean program is composed of 17 colleges and 66 majors with 17,500 students. Korean proficiency is required. All students spend their freshman year in the Residential College of Yonsei International Campus in Incheon, Songdo, where they experience creative community education that integrates learning and living.

Majors Offered

The colleges include liberal arts, business, economics, science, engineering, life science and biotechnology, theology, social sciences, law, music, human ecology, education, medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and Korean culture. Scholarships

Yonsei University provides scholarships for undergraduates that include Need-based for international students, Merit-based (Honors) for freshmen students based on admission evaluation results, as well as Work-Study and Activity-based options. Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS)

About

Yonsei GSIS is Korea’s leading professional graduate school dedicated exclusively to international studies. With all courses taught in English, GSIS is composed of 400 students and faculty with the highest international student enrollment (57%) in Korea. Its dynamic and rigorous curriculum equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel globally in the private and public sectors.

Majors Offered

GSIS majors are largely divided into three majors. The Korean Studies major offers a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Korean Studies. The International Cooperation major offers a Master of Global Affairs & Policy, and a Ph.D. in International Studies. The International Trade, Finance & Management major offers a Master of Global Economy & Strategy and a Ph.D. in International Studies as well as a Ph.D. in Strategy and Organization.

Scholarships

GSIS offers a wide variety of institutional and external scholarships. Institutional scholarships include Merit-based, Need-based, Work-Study, Teaching/Research, and Internship scholarships. Yonsei Graduate School

About

Yonsei University Graduate School pursues to empower global excellence and nurture creative thinking through its six academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Social Science, Natural Science, Engineering, Art and Physical Education, Medical Science, and Interdisciplinary Programs. Over 8,400 are currently enrolled in Yonsei University's diverse graduate programs. Percentage of courses offered in English varies according to the major.

Majors Offered

Yonsei Graduate School is comprised of 81 departments, 30 interdisciplinary programs, and 26 joint programs with prominent research institutes in Korea.

Scholarships

Global Institute of Theology (GIT)

About

Established in 2015, Global Institute of Theology is an English-language graduate program in theology for international students around the globe, with 35 international students from 14 countries. Located at the Yonsei International Campus in Songdo, Incheon, GIT educates global Christian leaders of emerging Christian countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to embrace the cultural and theological diversity of the global community.

Majors Offered

Global Institute of Theology offers a master (Th.M.) and doctor (Th.D.) in Theology.

Scholarships

GIT offers 100 percent financial aid for tuition, accommodation and living expenses for all students. Scholarships are supported by the network of Korean Churches, World Churches, and Yonsei University. For more information, you can go to the GIT website. 

Global MBA

About

Yonsei School of Business Global MBA is a full-time MBA degree program that exposes students to a global experience by working in diverse groups on business cases, team projects, and presentations. The program was ranked number one in Korea by The Economist for four consecutive years since 2011 and also features a supportive career development center.

Majors Offered

The 18-month curriculum is divided into three semesters of coursework modules, electives and/or internships.

Scholarships

Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)

About

International students have the option to study at Yonsei University with an academic scholarship funded by the Korean Ministry of Education called the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP). KGSP students can pursue undergraduate or graduate level studies at Yonsei University and are generally required to take intensive Korean language courses for a year before beginning their degree program, depending on their Korean proficiency.

Majors Offered

KGSP students can pursue their bachelor’s or master’s degree at Yonsei University.

Scholarships

Korean Language Institute (KLI)

About

The Korean Language Institute was established at Yonsei University in 1959 as the first institute in Korea to provide intensive Korean language programs for foreigners and overseas Koreans, including students, missionaries, and diplomats. KLI plays a significant role in introducing Korean language, culture and history, its 170 faculty educating over 9,000 students annually and over 150,000 students from 147 countries overall.

Programs Offered

KLI programs include: Regular Program offered throughout the year, Evening Program for diplomats, professors, and/or professionals, Advanced Program for former KLI graduates, Summer Special Program which provides language studies and cultural activities, 3-Week Program for pre-Regular Program students, Requested Program for private groups, and University Korean Program held at Yonsei International Campus in Songdo, Incheon.

Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who demoncustate the potential for superior academic performance. Students who have completed at least one term and whose Korean language improvement and class attendance have been outstanding will be awarded a scholarship which consists of either a 50% reduction or 30% reduction in the tuition fee. Students may also be eligible for Assistantships and Fellowships or receive financial aid from the Fulbright Korean-American Educational Commission and InKAS (International Korean Adoptee Service). Yonsei International Summer School (YISS)

About

Yonsei International Summer School is Korea’s leading summer program based on a unique blend of Korean and global cultures. The academic program highlights the arts, culture, and humanities while also offering cutting-edge classes in management and economics, global issues, history, social sciences, and science and technology. Students can choose from 6-week and 4-week options. One defining feature of YISS is its competitive corporate and research internships.

Courses Offered

YISS students can choose from over 90 courses across nearly all academic fields, including Arts & Humanities, Korean Studies, Business & Economics, Social Sciences, Science & Technology, East Asian Studies, and Korean Language courses.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for visiting (fee-paying) students. Options include Need-based and Merit-based scholarships as well as Early Enrollment and Re-Enrollment benefits. Students whose parents are Yonsei alumni can also apply for the Yonsei Alumni Scholarship. For more information, you can go to the YISS website. 

Winter Abroad at Yonsei (WAY)

About

Yonsei University opened Korea’s first winter program at its Sinchon campus for international students who would like to enjoy the winter in Seoul. The six-week winter program is composed of two separate 3-week sessions, with intensive morning coursework and unique afternoon Korean language and Taekwondo classes. During weekends, students can enjoy Korean winter activities.

Courses Offered

Students can choose from Korea-focused courses - such as Korean Development, Contemporary Korean Cinema & Society, Korean Economy, and North Korean Politics - as well as a variety of courses ranging from Psychology to Microeconomics.

Scholarships

WAY offers two scholarships: Early Enrollment benefit and Yonsei Alumni Scholarship for students whose parents are Yonsei alumni. For more information, you can go to the WAY website.
