A Yonsei research team, led by Professor Yeo Jong-souk of the School of Integrated Technology, has demonstrated the effectiveness of ultracompact broadband photodection using plasmonic nanoridge geometry. Their nanoridge photodetector promises to have important implications for the development of faster information processing systems, such as in smartphones or computers, which require fast communication systems in order to effectively process large amounts of data. On March 10, the team’s article, “Enhanced Detection of Broadband Incoherent Light with Nanoridge Plasmonics,” was published in the prestigious journal Nano Letters.

According to Professor Yeo, “with nanoscale design, material, and dimensional compatibility for the integration, the nanoridge photodetector opens up a new possibility of highly sensitive on-chip photodetection for future integrated circuits and sensing applications.” Professor Yeo and his team are funded by “Cultivating IT Top Quality Brand Talent,” a program run under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.
