The Yonsei Cancer Clinics, which moved into their new building on the Sinchon Campus just a year ago, offer cancer treatment that is unrivaled in Korea. Adhering to the motto: “We know how precious our patients’ health and time are,” the clinics are also providing cancer treatment to a growing number of international patients.

Growth in Number of Outpatients and Surgeries

Since the opening of the new Yonsei Cancer Center in May 2014, the average number of outpatients per day has increased from 1,500 to more than 1,800. At the same time, the average number of surgeries performed each day has risen from thirty-seven to forty-five.

● “3 Low - 3 High” Policy

The Yonsei Cancer Clinics have created a “3 low – 3 high” policy. On the one hand, this policy is designed to reduce the pain, anxiety, and waiting times experienced by patients. On the other hand, the clinics are committed to providing high-quality medical professionals, improving communication between doctors and patients, and increasing overall comfort. One specific aspect of this policy is that the cancer clinics do not require patients to undergo examinations, medical imaging, or blood testing before 6:00 a.m.

● Team Science: Recognition That We Are All Patients

All fifteen clinics have adopted the concept of “team science,” determined to provide medical treatment with the awareness that “we are all patients.” Individualized diagnoses and cancer treatments are determined with the collaboration of doctors from different cancer clinics; they assemble as a team to thoroughly review each patient’s medical history and test results. Treatment procedures are conducted by high-quality surgical teams, and for more complex procedures, at least two teams are on hand.

● Approximately 100 Clinical Trials Conducted in Past Year

- Nearly 5000 International Patients Treated

In the past year, there have been nearly 100 clinical trials conducted through Yonsei Cancer Clinics thanks to their sophisticated treatment equipment and high-quality medical professionals. About 670 patients have taken part in the various clinical trials. At the same time, the clinics have treated more than 4,800 international outpatients and inpatients.

● Changing Culture of Cancer Treatment: Cancer Information Center and Cancer Prevention Center

In treating cancer, it is essential to manage the health of patients and to prevent recurrences of the disease. The Cancer Information Center and Cancer Prevention Center are designed to assist in these aims. The Cancer Information Center works to prevent cancer recurrence by making patients aware of the benefit of certain behavioral changes. The Cancer Prevention Center runs programs for individuals with a high risk for developing cancer, as well as for patients who have received cancer treatment without any recurrence.

● Metastatic Cancer Clinic: Promoting New Cancer Treatment Culture

The Metastatic Cancer Clinic is charged with treating patients suffering from cancer that has metastasized. The treatments are conceived through the collaboration of doctors from several different clinics, and highly-skilled teams perform surgeries on patients whose cancer is difficult to treat.
