Beginning next semester, Yonsei students will register for classes using the new Yonsei Course Enrollment System, or Y-CES, which incorporates existing course enrollment systems used by many of the world’s top universities. These include a mileage system, waitlist feature, and time tickets.  Y-CES is expected to drastically reduce the problems students currently face when registering for classes.

In particular, Y-CES should prevent the system crashes that frequently occur on the Yonsei Portal site when too many students attempt to register at the same time. It is also designed to be a fairer and more rational system, allocating course slots based on such factors as a student’s academic performance, major, and graduation date. At the same time, the system will automatically generate waiting lists and determine the waiting order, while more effectively regulating the number of courses offered.

According to university officials, Y-SEC has been created to increase student satisfaction. In order to prepare Y-SEC for its launch this summer, the university is undertaking a promotional campaign, and a mock-enrollment will be held with the assistance of student volunteers. Yonsei plans to apply for a patent for Y-CES with the aim of transferring this technology to other universities in the future.
