—Yonsei Nobel Forum Created

To mark its 130th anniversary this year, Yonsei University has organized the Yonsei Nobel Forum, inviting six Nobel Prize laureates to campus this semester. The forum is designed to bring some of the world’s preeminent intellectuals, politicians, and writers to Yonsei to offer their reflections on the state of the contemporary world and the future.

The first event of the forum was the “Yonsei-Kim Dae-jung Forum on the World’s Future,” which was held March 12 in Baekyang Concert Hall. Participants included 2008 Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari, who is the former president of Finland, and Oe Kenzaburo(大江健三郎), recipient of the 1994 Nobel Prize in Literature. The next installment of the Yonsei Nobel Forum took place March 19, welcoming Eric Maskin, who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2007.

On April 28, Yonsei will host Ivar Giaever, winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics, and Maskawa Toshihide(益川敏英), who also received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2008. The final guest of the forum will be Randy Schekman, 2013 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Schekman will visit Yonsei on May 27 and 28.
