Yonsei and NGO Good Neighbors Host 2015 Youth Model World Education Forum

-Seeking Solutions to Educational Problems in Developing Nations

From January 21 to 23, Yonsei University’s Leadership Center and Leaders Club teamed up with the NGO Good Neighbors to host the 2015 Youth Model World Education Forum. Welcoming more than 130 high school students from across the country, the forum challenged students, as future global citizens, to come up with creative solutions to address educational problems in developing nations.

During the forum, students attended lectures, participated in debates, and watched a special performance; at the end of the show, students left their handprints on a book-shaped sculpture meant to signify education. This symbolic gesture of leaving handprints was thus intended to provide encouragement to disadvantaged students around the world.

Good Neighbors specializes in development and relief efforts in a number of poor countries. At the forum, Good Neighbors team manager Kim Eun-kyung said: “According to UNESCO, there are 58 million school-aged children in the world that are not going to school. The youth of this country should be concerned about such global issues as this in order to develop into world citizens.” Lee Jeong-hoon, director of the Yonsei Leadership Center, added: “As young people think through these issues together, I am confident that they will grow into global leaders.”
