During his visit to the United Kingdom July 9-11, Yonsei President Jeong Kap-young secured agreements with King’s College London, the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and the University of Edinburgh to expand academic and research exchanges. The agreements with these schools will significantly enhance Yonsei’s UK network, which also includes the University of Oxford, the University of Bath, and the University of Sheffield.

In London, President Jeong met with King’s College Principal Sir Richard Trainor and Director of International Strategy Tayyeb Shah to discuss increasing the number of student exchanges and the participation of King’s students in the Yonsei International Summer School (YISS). Yonsei first made an agreement with King’s College on student exchanges in 2013, and, beginning this year, the school is a partner institution for Yonsei’s Three Campus East Asian Comparative Studies Program.

President Jeong also visited SOAS, which is the top-rated English school in the field of Asian Studies. There, he met with Pro-Director Nirmala Rao and Student Recruitment Manager Nick Butler, reaching an agreement on student and academic exchanges.

Student Exchange Agreement with the University of Edinburgh

During his trip, President Jeong went to Scotland, where he visited the University of Edinburgh. Following meetings with Vice Principal International Stephen Hillier and Dr. Paul Foster of the School of Divinity, an agreement was reached to begin student exchanges between Yonsei and Edinburgh. Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh is ranked 17th in the most recent QS World University Rankings, and it has produced eighteen Nobel Prize winners.

Yonsei is also attempting to increase its student exchanges with the University of Oxford. This summer, seven Oxford undergraduates attended YISS, all of whom participated in the Yonsei Summer Research Internship (YSRI) program. YSRI is a special program designed for highly qualified and motivated YISS students, providing them the opportunity to take part in ongoing research projects with Yonsei faculty and to work as interns at Yonsei’s research centers.
