The Yonsei Delegation for Model United Nations (YDMUN) attended the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York March 30-April 3, winning the First Place Award for Outstanding Delegation.  A Yonsei student club supported by the Institute of East and West Studies, YDMUN also won this award in 2010.
The NMUN Conference began in 1946, and since 1968 it has been sponsored by the National Collegiate Conference Association (NCCA), a non-governmental organization associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information.  Lasting five days and four nights, the New York NMUN Conference is the largest of its kind in the world.  At the conference, student delegations are assigned a country or organization and required to represent that entity’s diplomatic interests in discussions and negotiations with other delegations, with the ultimate aim of drafting a final resolution to be voted upon by the General Assembly.  Through this experience, students develop an appreciation of differing viewpoints, experience the challenge of negotiation, see the rewards of cooperation, broaden their worldview, and discover the human side of international relations and diplomacy.
The NMUN Conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel in New York’s Times Square, with more than 2,500 undergraduate students from over 200 colleges and universities worldwide participating. This year’s YDMUN, which was tasked with representing Thailand at the conference, was composed of twenty-four students. To demonstrate their longstanding commitment to promote international diplomacy at home, the YDMUN has begun to plan for the 7th Yonsei Model United Nations Conference for high school and middle school students.  This event will take place in January of 2015 on the Sinchon Campus, and it will welcome over 300 students from throughout Korea.
