On July 3, the Yonsei School of Business (YSB) and Claremont McKenna College (CMC) signed an MOU for management consulting with Lindenbaum Music. Operating in conjunction with the 2013 Yonsei-CMC Leadership Program, which will draw 10 students from each institution, the MOU will allow the participating Yonsei and CMC students to engage in management consulting for Lindenbaum Music, which is based on a Korean social enterprise model. Aiming to become a Korean El Sistema, Lindembaum Music is an organization that seeks to achieve harmonious social change through musical education and performances. Established in 2009, Lindembaum Music provides young people from Korea with opportunities to meet with and learn from world-class musicians by sponsoring musical education festivals around the world. In 2011, the organization promoted an orchestra performance, directed by the renowned conductor Charles Dutoit, with over 100 teenagers from both South and North Korea. However, due to the tense political situation on the Korean peninsula, this performance has been postponed indefinitely. Mr. Won Hyong-jun, Director of Lindembaum Music, said: “The longer I run the organization, the more I realize the need for effective management.” He added: “I look forward to an improvement in Lindembaum’s operation and hope that Lindembaum will soon be able to host the special orchestra composed of South and North Korean teenagers.” According to the Dean of YSB, Professor Park Young-ryeol: “The activities of business management are constantly expanding into new fields, including those of medicine and arts and culture. This MOU with Lindenbaum and YBS and CMC will enable students from both institutions to collaborate in promoting positive social change in South Korea through music, as well as greater cultural communication between the two Koreas.”
