On May 22, a ceremony and special lecture were held to honor the recipients of the sixth annual Cho Rhak-gyo Economics Award and the first annual Cho Rhak-gyo Rising Economist Award. Professor Jang Yong-sung of Rochester University, and a special lecturer at Yonsei’s Underwood International College, received the Cho Rhak-gyo Economics Award. Professor Jang is known for his research in macroeconomics and labor market dynamics. The first Cho Rhak-gyo Rising Economist Award was bestowed upon Professor Choi Seung-joo, a promising young experimental economist at the University of London. The Cho Rhak-gyo Economics Award was established in 2007 with funding from Cho Rhak-gyo, an alumnus who studied economics at Yonsei. It is awarded each year to a Korean economist working in Korea or abroad, and it recognizes outstanding research contributions that can serve as a foundation for the sustainable, long-term growth of the Korean economy. The Cho Rhak-gyo Rising Economist Award was established to recognize the work of promising young economists, and it is intended to support their continuing research.
