'Korea’s Best Center' basketball player Seo Jang-hoon donated scholarships worth KRW 200 million to Yonsei University. On May 31st, Yonsei University announced that Seo donated KRW 200 million as scholarship to help students in need of economic support. Yonsei University President Jeong Kap-young and Seo attended the contract signing ceremony at the president’s office. Seo entered Yonsei in 1993 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sports & Leisure Studies at the College of Sciences in Education. At a press conference at the KBL (Korea Basketball League) Center on May 21st, Seo had said, “I will retire after the 2012-2013 season. I will donate my last year’s annual salary as a player.” He chose to make the donation to his school and fellow Yonseians as an expression of gratitude to his fans for their love and support throughout his career. He accumulated many fans when he was a player on the Yonsei basketball team during the 90s. At a height of 207cm, even after his debut in the pro-league he excelled as a player with his scoring abilities. Currently a player on the KT pro basketball team, this is not his first good deed. Over 5 seasons, – between 2002 to 2007, when he was running on the Samsung basketball team – he saved a fixed sum of money for each free throw, to help children of families without parents and young cancer patients. When he was named MVP at an All-Star season, he added a personal contribution to the reward and donated the total. In 2008, running on the KCC team, he scored a record 10,000 points and to celebrate he gave KRW 10 million to children struggling with cancer at Chonbuk National University Hospital. Last year, he scored his 5,000th rebound point and he donated KRW 10 million to students in Changwon region.
