[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei University Ranks 16thAmong Asian Universities

Yonsei University ranked 16th in the 2012 QS University Rankings for Asia. The list was released by The ChosunIlbo and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), publisher of the most trusted annual league table of the top 600 universities in the world, based in the UK. Yonsei climbed 2 spots from 18th place in 2011 to 16th in 2012. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ranked No.1 followed by National University of Singapore, Peking University and The University of Tokyo in 3rd, 6th and 8th place, respectively. Among Korean universities, Seoul National University ranked highest at No. 4. Others include KAIST, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea University and SungKyunKwan University ranking 7th, 9th, 21st and 24th, respectively. On several lists of the QS World University Rankings® by Subject,Yonsei moved up 5 spots to 13th in the Social Science sector, 1 spot to 12th in the Arts and Humanities, 4 spots to 28th in Natural Science and 10 spots to 30th in Engineering & Technology. Yonsei’s ranking slipped 5 spots on the Life Sciences & Medicine ranking to 19th. The achievements are seen to reflect the growing significance of Yonsei’s research results and its increasing global recognition making international scholars (16,440) see Yonsei’s competitiveness and status in a new light.
