One of the iPhone apps that most, if not all, iPhone users in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province have downloaded is the Seoul Bus. This application program provides real-time information on the locations of local buses, and was developed in 2009 by Mr. Ryu Ju-wan—a student of Gyeonggi Province. High School at that time. Now Mr. Ryu is a student in the School of Integrated Technology at the College of Engineering. It was his father who advised Mr. Yoo to get a college education. As a middle and high school student, Mr. Yoo was engrossed in computer programming, therefore losing interest in entering university. He started programming when he was in the third grade of elementary school, preparing for a class website contest. He had built a website with information from the Internet—no learning from books or any systematic education. However, his father’s advice along with his experience as the developer of Seoul Bus led Mr. Yoo to pursue a college education. In a previous interview, he said that the whole procedure of developing and releasing the application had made him realize the importance of not only technology but also marketing, management, and design. Mr. Yoo has finished his first semester in the Yonsei School of Integrated Technology at the College of Engineering. He is filled with the desire to expand his knowledge and viewpoints by doing more extensive reading. He said, “My interests have extended to various topics, which I believe to be the result of in-class small discussions on multifarious aspects of computer programming and IT business. Mr. Yoo also has 14 fellow students with whom he studies and works. He said, “They provide motivation for more learning and improvement.” Since the undergraduate program of the School of Integrated Technology is a three-year program, the courses for every semester are highly intensive. This summer, Mr. Yoo is receiving special lessons on his weak areas such as math and physics. He added, “The program offers an optimal environment to explore varied fields and invest for my future.
