[YONSEI NEWS] Creating “Green Campus” through Zero Food Trash Campaign

On September 24, at Yonsei-Samsung Library’s International Conference Room, several universities gathered to agree on “University Food Environment and Culture.” Yonsei University, Ewha Womens’ University, Chonbuk University, Sunggyungwan University, and Kyungil University participated in this event. Yonsei University plans to install systems such as side dish scales, sharing or splitting single portions, side dish trash status graphs to promote food saving awareness among the students. Furthermore, events such as eco-mileage coupons, idea proposal contests, and free meal tickets for students who finish their portions will be planned. The universities participating in the “Green Campus” campaign will aggressively promote reform of food environment in the schools and plans to lessen food trash amount by 20% by 2011. The Green Campus Council will analyze outcomes of the trial campaign and promote the campaign to universities nationwide. If the trial universities experiment results in a successful campaign, other universities will be encouraged to participate as well. The Ministry of Environment plans to grant special funds to trial universities for this campaign. In the meeting, Moon Jung-ho, Vice Minister from Ministry of Environment, Shin Eui-soon, Green Campus Council President, and Lee Kyoung-sook, Ewha Woman’s University Vice President participated among others.
