[YONSEI PEOPLE] Former Yonsei President’s Funeral Service

On April 27, former Yonsei President Park Dae-sun passed away of old age at Gangnam Severance Hospital at the age of 94. His funeral service was held on May 3 at Luce Chapel, Yonsei University. He was born on April 15 1916 in a devout Christian family in Uiseong Gyeongsangbukdo. He has donated his body for medical education and research to the College of Medicine, Yonsei University. His grandfather was arrested for playing a leading role in the 3.1 Independence Movement in the Gyeongsangbukdo province, and his father was also jailed for participating in the movement. The former Yonsei President graduated in English Literature from 'Kwansei Gakuin University' in Japan and attained his doctoral degree in Theology from Boston University. During his 11 years of office as the 4th-6th President of Yonsei University, he had never taken severe disciplinary action against the students for any movement regarding the current state of affairs and fought against the dictatorial government that obstructed the reenrollment of students and reinstatement of professors.
