On March 29, Yonsei University signed an exchange agreement with the University of Vienna to exchange students, faculty and academic materials and to carry out joint research. The idea for agreement originated from discussions between Arthur Mettinger (Vice President of the University of Vienna) and Yonsei President Kim Han-joong, which took place when President Kim visited the University of Vienna in June 2008. The University of Vienna was founded in 1365 by Duke Rudolph IV and his two brothers Albert III and Leopold III and is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and the largest in Europe. As the largest higher education and research institute in Austria, the University of Vienna has produced many Nobel Prize laureates, including Robert Bárány (1914, Medicine), Hans Fischer (1930, Chemistry), Erwin Schrödinger (1933, Physics) and Friedrich Hayek (1974, Economics).
