On April 7, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced the results of the thorough screening processes for the national 2010 Creative Research Programs. Organized in 1997, the Creative Research Program aims to develop science and technology through creative and advanced researches. It pursues to activate the pathway for the next generation researchers with creativity to become the world-class researchers. The 13 selected research projects include three projects from Yonsei professors: Professor Kim Dae-eun (Mechanical Engineering), Professor Shin In-je (Chemistry) and Professor Chun Jin-woo (Chemistry). Professor Kim Dae-eun’s research team examines the infinite anti-friction technology that is semi-permanent and almost completely resistant to abrasion. Professor Shin In-je’s team tries to discover the biofunctional organic molecule that can control the cell death process which is fundamental to the sustenance of individual life. The team will also investigate the cell death processes in order to discover candidate materials for the future treatments for cancer, neuropathy and cardiopathy. Professor Chun Jin-woo’s team sets up important chemical reactions which produce auto reactions and transformation processes of nano-particles. These chemical reactions form the basis for a generalized rule for the synthesis for self-evolutionary nano-particles. The team is also planning to control the life phenomenon at a cell level by utilizing the changes nano-particles produce in the cell system.
