On January 16, the snow-covered Han River was filled with enthusiastic sounds from Saeteomin students (Saeteomin is a term for people who escape from North Korea and settle down in South Korea). 30 members of YUHC (Yonsei Saeteomin university student marathon club) were running along the Han River. They were full of will to finish whatever difficult for them. YUHC was established on January 9 with help of Volunteer Work Center led by Professor Kim Jae-yup from the department of Social Welfare. The group was set up as a part of settlement program for Saeteomins. Yonsei University is now the first university to have a marathon club established by Saeteomin students. For the unified country, Saeteomin students are precious human resource for the future. Their special experience of the two different systems is expected to contribute a lot to the process of the unification. The importance of education for them to work as a bridge for unification is very significant. The social load of the unification can be largely reduced by Saeteomins who have deep understandings of both economic systems. YUHC participated in the 7th Han River Full Course (5km) Marathon on February 7. Along with their participation, Kim Joo-hyun, the president of Korean Amateur Marathon Association, promised full support for the club. Professor Kim Jae-yup also said that he is planning to do a campaign where 100 Korean Won is donated for every mile ran by the Saeteomin students.
