Lecture by Park Won-soon, Executive Director of Hope Institute “Future is of people who dream. Let’s make effort to make a better society with infinite dreams.” Park Won-soon, lawyer and executive director of the Hope Institute, gave a special lecture on the ‘Spirit of Future Leaders and Social Responsibility’ on 22 September. The lecture was arranged through an invitation by the Yonsei School of Business. Mr. Park prefaced his lecture by making an indirect criticism of the National Intelligence Service, mentioning that the “Hope Institute and Beautiful Foundation are recently receiving more support thanks to the lawsuit raised by the NIS.” Mr. Park, who defined himself as a Social Designer, commented, “The field of design does not only apply to art field. To design a society anew is also the job of a designer.” “Ethics is emphasized in almost every field in our society now,” he continued, “and profit-seeking corporations are now recognizing the importance of corporate social responsibility as a member of local society.” He told students about the turning point in his life when he changed from just being a lawyer to a social entrepreneur, emphasizing the entrepreneurial spirit and the spirit of challenge. At the end of the lecture, he drew an example of Paul Newman, who turned himself from a famous actor into social entrepreneur who owned a salad dressing company that donated its profit for social goals. He finished his lecture challenging the students to be bold in their dreams: “Young people who dream of becoming a social entrepreneur should have the spirit of challenge to unknown fields and proper entrepreneurial spirit.”
