Yonsei University Council of Professors announced on August 14 that the decision was made to reform the current system of university presidential election, which did not operate very well for the last 21 years, in view of the vital importance of the leadership of the university president. The new system consists of two phases to elect a university president. In the first phase, the Yonsei University Board of Trustees nominates one candidate. In the second phase, professors take part in a vote of confidence under the management of the Council of Professors. The new system will take effect from the next election in 2011. Criteria to be elected as the university president are more than the majority of voters participating in the election and a more than half of the total number of votes. If the former condition is not fulfilled in the first vote, there will be the second vote.
